What Should Your CBD Oil Dosage Be?

CBD oil can be extremely useful, but how do you know that you’re not taking too much? On the other hand, what if you’re not taking enough for the desired effect?

To make things a bit more complicated, proper CBD oil dosage can differ between individuals, and different brands of CBD oil may contain different concentrations. If you’re new to this, then it’s natural to be confused about exactly how much you should take.

Below, let’s go over a few of the key points of CBD dosage, and how you can figure out what amount and concentration are right for you.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind

First, like any substance, there are some factors that will affect how much you should be ingesting:

1. Your Age, Genetics, Weight, and Other Individual Variations

People metabolize CBD differently, so there will always be variations. Because there are so many factors involved, you have no way of knowing exactly how CBD oil will affect you without trying it. Sometimes it’s a matter of trial and error, as with a lot of other herbs.

2. Your Tolerance

If you built up a tolerance to CBD before, then you may need more to get the desired effect. Just as with any other substance, your body can get used to it.

3. Your Goals

How much you take will also depend on your specific goals with the oil. People who are looking for a sleep supplement will take a different amount than people looking to manage their pain, for instance.

Another factor that complicates matters is that fact that CBD oil is not an instant cure. Although it can treat many conditions, it may take days or weeks to see effects. Some people don’t realize this and quit or skip their doses, which robs them from being able to experience its real benefits.

A Quick Guide to CBD Oil Dosage

Now, you should always follow the instructions that come with your CBD oil, since they’ll be specific to the concentration that you have. In general, though, follow these steps when you’re taking CBD for the first time:

1. Go through a short testing period

Start with the smallest dose (a drop) once a day, then note any effects it may have on you. This is to rule out possible negative reactions. They’re rare, but if you feel that the CBD oil doesn’t agree with your body, stop using it right away.

2. Increase slowly

After one or two days of testing the smallest dosage, double it and keep taking just two drops for the next few weeks. If you can, don’t take the drops all at once, either—you might take one in the morning, and then another in the evening, for example.

As the weeks go on, and you seem to be tolerating it well, you might increase the dosage steadily if you feel that you can benefit from this. Otherwise, if one or two drops per day work for you, keep it.

3. Dose according to what ails you

If you’re using CBD as a health supplement, or you’re trying to manage pain, then anywhere from 2.5 to 20mg may work for you. Of course, you’ll only know for sure from testing. If you’re trying to use CBD as a sleep aid, then you will have to use more, perhaps between 40 to 160. Again, test it out and increase slowly.

Above all, remember to always give yourself time to adapt and check your reaction every time you increase the dose. CBD oil may be mild compared to many pharmaceuticals, but it still has an effect of course, and you want to make sure that you get the full benefits without overdoing it.
